Dental Crowns in Liverpool

Dental crowns are a great option when you want to restore your teeth to full strength after damage or decay. Fitting a crown is a relatively simple procedure, and the end result will be a natural-looking, strong implant that will completely blend with your existing teeth.

If you’re sick of having to worry about what you eat, having frequent toothaches, or putting up with an unsightly damaged tooth, then a crown could be the treatment for you.

What Is a Crown?

A crown is a custom-made cap for your tooth, designed to match the shape and colour of your natural enamel. They can be made from porcelain, a porcelain and metal mix, or gold, depending on your budget and the look you want to achieve.

Is a Crown Right for Me?

Dental crowns are recommended for patients who want to restore both the appearance and strength of a tooth. Tooth crowns represent an overlap of both restorative and cosmetic dentistry, as they can fix a dental problem and improve the look of your teeth in a natural way. Crowns can solve issues such as:

  • Cracked teeth due to trauma
  • Chipped teeth
  • Damage caused over time
  • Teeth weakened by decay
  • Replacing a heavily-filled tooth

Although dental enamel is the strongest substance produced by the human body, it cannot heal itself. Once a tooth is damaged in any way, restorative dentistry is the only treatment option. If you suffer from any of the dental issues listed above, having a crown fitted could be the solution for you.

What’s the Procedure?

To fit a crown, your Liverpool dentist will begin by reshaping your tooth so the crown can be securely fixed over it. Your dentist will administer a local anesthetic before filing down some enamel to ensure you are comfortable during the procedure.

The next step is to take an impression of the target tooth, which will be sent to a dental laboratory and used to make your bespoke tooth crown.

At the end of this visit, you’ll be given a temporary crown to protect your tooth until your implant is ready. Once your crown has been made, you’ll make a second trip to your dentist, where it will be permanently fixed. After a little getting used to, your crown will feel and look like a natural tooth, and will last for many years to come.
